What’s That? A Successful Travel Insurance Claim Story?

Posted Nov. 7th, 2014 by Jill Mangum

For those of you who travel regularly, purchasing travel insurance is probably often one of the top priorities on your to-do list. Now, most of us can admit that any type of insurance can be intimidating. Often the coverage can be confusing – what, when, where, how, and who does the policy cover? And if the process of obtaining a policy isn’t enough to want to make you pull your hair out, think about when it’s time to actually make a claim! Is it going to pay off? Are you getting what you expected out of the policy?

Which brings us to the encouraging story of two dear friends and frequent guests of NE’s Invitational Photo Tours, Fred and Kathy. Fred and Kathy were supposed to travel on NE’s Italy trip this year, but due to an unexpected back injury, Kathy was unable to join the trip at the last minute.

Fortunately, Fred and Kathy purchased travel insurance when they booked the trip through Travel Insured via insuremytrip.com. They filed a claim and received a check from the insurance company within two weeks! Fred recalls the whole process as being ‘painless and simple,’ and he also mentions the fact that the company was very professional and easy to deal with. “I could not have been happier,” Fred tells us. The company even encouraged Fred and Kathy to consider them for any future trips. After filing a claim? Wow! And Fred and Kathy do. In fact, they just purchased another policy from Travel Insured for NE’s 2016 Ireland trip.

Many of us have experienced or heard the distressing accounts of dealing with insurance claims, so we’re happy to be able to share this testimony with you. We hope that even though it can be frustrating and seem impossible to obtain good, reliable insurance, you will consider that it can be a positive experience if you’re using the right company. We always recommend purchasing travel insurance. After all, life is bound to throw a few unwanted curves at us when least expected.

Read below the adorable bear photo for instructions on how Fred purchased the insurance online.

What's that? A recommended insurance company?

What’s that? An easy and successful travel insurance claim?

“All I do is go to Insure My Trip and enter the information about the trip. Then all the choices and companies come up.  I go straight to the three that Travel Insured offers and pick the middle plan. Then upon checkout, I upgrade the medical insurance from secondary to primary. Simple as that. I also always purchase it as soon as I put the deposit down on the trip so to get pre-existing conditions covered – this is very important. I usually go ahead and insure the complete land portion at the time even though I haven’t paid for all of it yet.  Then I call them and add airfare when I book the airfare.”

Thanks for sharing Fred and Kathy! Feel free to offer your comments, suggestions, and personal experiences right here on the blog 🙂

This is so true! I think I also purchased insurance from the same company for a photography trip. But what I learned was that if I wanted to cancel a trip to a tropical destination because of a Zika outbreak, that the best kind of insurance to buy is “CANCEL FOR ANY REASON” trip insurance.
So that’s what I get now, and they can’t deny me a claim check should I have to cancel my travel plans! Just an additional note, but this is a great article!
