Nikon D3200 or Lumix for Biking Trip?

I am a novice photographer. What is your opinion of the nikon d3200 dlsr camera?. I know Jim Heywood and he is letting me experiment with his Lumix camera. I am going on a bike tour in italy in may and need a very easy to use camera that will take good photos and video. there is a good sale on the nikon d3200 dslr that’s why i asked your opinion on that one.

Unfortunately I’ve not had any experience with the Nikon D3200. I’m certain it would make a capable camera given the terrific quality Nikon produces. I currently shoot the D600, D800 and D4 Nikon bodies. I have seen and held a D3200 and it is a rather small, easy to carry body. The big difference between it and the Lumix gear is the size of the lenses that you would attach to the body. Overall the Lumix will give you a much smaller package but you don’t mention which Lumix Jim is allowing you to try. For travel photography where you don’t plan to experience a lot of fast moving people or animals, the Lumix would work beautifully. If you plan to shoot bikers speeding by, or birds in flight, the Nikon is the only way to go at this point. I love both systems but they each have their pros and cons. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
