Nikon’s Turn to Update Their All-in-one Compact Coolpix P600

Today was Nikon’s turn to update their all-in-one compact –  Coolpix P600. In earlier posts I’ve mentioned that for some people all-in-one compacts are actually something to consider. It was an all-in-one compact from Canon that one of our NE Explorers had in Yellowstone last month that caught my attention and made me start looking further into this low cost, super mobile option.

In my quest to help people go Smaller, Lighter, Faster, Better, I would like to introduce you to the newest all-in-one compact Nikon called the P600 that was recently released. It has a 60x optical zoom NIKKOR Super ED glass lens. That equates to 1440mm. Thankfully there is the phenomenal Nikon VR included since any lens that powerful is nearly impossible to hold without VR. It shoots 1080P HD video and sports a 16 megapixel sensor.  It weighs only 19.9 ounces with battery and SD card, shoots at 7FPS, for just one second, and is small and compact for the amount of camera in this package.

Will a camera like this be enough for the average enthusiast? I’m not sure. I don’t have one to try but the concept is interesting for those of you who are tired of carrying large, heavy cameras gear with lots of lenses. Did I mention the price? A ridiculously cheap $500. Good grief taking photos has never been so inexpensive.
