When Vincent van Gogh cut off his ear, he was admitted to the hospital in Arles, France. It was here that he painted “The Courtyard of the Hospital in Arles” in 1889. These beautiful flowers were growing along the edges of the building when I visited in 2017. Today, this space is known as the Espace Van Gogh and serves as a public cultural center in the heart of Arles. Summer is a spectacular time to be in France, with abundant flowers across the landscape.
