Salmon Fishing

I’ve been working with brown bears in Alaska for over 30 years, and the excitement of seeing these massive carnivores never gets old. Throughout those decades, I’ve been searching for just the right spot where brown bears and the gloriously colored sockeye salmon converge. And a couple of years ago, I found it. 

Brown bears are North America’s second-largest carnivore, out-weighted by only the polar bear. Being such large animals, it takes a lot of food to pack enough calories into their bodies to hibernate through the winter. Salmon is a major food source that helps them accomplish that.
