Black-eyed Susans carpet the prairie in the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. I had never been to the Minnesota Valley NWR at this time of year until I visited last month. I took my dad for a drive on a scouting trip for areas around the Minneapolis area that might relate to nature. We ended up driving the backroads around the Jordan area and found these impressive displays of wildflowers. Even driving along the interstate, the wildflowers were thick along the roadside. Dad doesn’t get out of the car much anymore, but he was on fire with enthusiasm for the flower show we ended up finding. It’s so satisfying to know there are still wild areas within easy reach of some of our nation’s largest cities.
