A Puma family makes their way down a ridge under the towering granite spires of Torres del Paine National Park. Pumas are known by several other names, including mountain lion, cougar, panther, and catamount, to name a few. Their numerous names indicate how prolific these cats are, with their population spanning across many cultures. In fact, the Puma, a member of the family Felidae, has the widest distribution of any New World mammal, with a range extending from southeastern Alaska to southern Argentina and Chile. They’re obviously exceptionally successful.
This past month, I worked with wild Pumas in Patagonia for the first time. I’ll do it again next year and the year after, and you can join us on one of our Patagonia Puma Photography Tours. Be sure to watch Dan’s Pumas of Patagonia video below!
