Southeast African Cheetah
Cheetahs are one of Africa’s most beautiful and charismatic animals. My first trip to see these beautiful cats happened in the late 80s when I visited South Africa. It took many years before we started returning to South Africa, but we’re now going regularly.
The Cheetahs in South Africa are a subspecies known as the Southeast African Cheetah. Cheetahs from Africa and Asia were previously considered genetically identical. But in the early 1990s, research proved that the Southern and East African Cheetahs are uniquely different. Although Cheetahs are less prevalent than the other big cats in South Africa, we often get one or two opportunities to see and photograph them per trip.
