Faroe’s Floating Lake

The Faroe Islands were first settled by Irish monks who originally described the islands as a paradise of sheep and birds. Faroe Islands gets its name, which means Sheep Islands, from medieval Norway during the days of the Viking settlers in the 9th century 

Lake Leitisvatn, widely known as the Floating Lake, is famous for the optical illusion of looking as if it’s floating above the Atlantic Ocean when seen from the cliff Trælanípa. The height of these cliffs that rise from the ocean below is truly spellbinding, and it takes all the common sense one can muster not to get too close. I crawled to the edge for this image, then gently crawled backward to get out.
