Snow geese are one of the most abundant species of waterfowl in the world. The population of snow geese throughout North America has risen from less than 1 million in 1970, according to several estimates, to at least 13 million today. I’ve always been attracted to these beautiful birds and I’m fortunate to live in a state that’s in their migration route both spring and fall.
These two geese were simply grazing on plants beneath the water when the one on the right attacked. Water and feathers flew for only seconds, but the more aggressive bird apparently got his point across since both birds went on their way and I saw no other altercations. Seeing snow geese during their migration is one of the animal spectacles we still have in North America.
