Wild dogs are one of my favorite species to photograph in Africa. Unfortunately they’re not doing well, and in fact their populations have declined dramatically in the past 30 years. Today it’s believed there are less than 6,000 of these unique animals left in the wild. Most are found in East and Southern Africa.
We came upon this large litter of puppies in South Africa one evening not far from our lodge. They were lying in the road, with lots of play going on that kicked up the dust. Getting an entire pack of puppies to look at the camera is an impossible feat. Thankfully the three up front were cooperative.
