Auroras Over Hudson Bay

By Daniel J. Cox

Auroras Over Hudson Bay Natural Note

One of the most magical experiences in all of nature is watching the northern lights. On this evening last month I was lucky to see one of the best aurora shows I’ve ever witnessed. We had just arrived at the Tundra Buggy Lodge and were finishing dinner when the display began.

Churchill is not just famous for polar bears but the aurora borealis as well. Our main goal for going to Churchill was to see the polar bears, but northern lights are always a possibility. They can be so good that the US and Canadian governments at one time set up the Churchill Rocket Research Range, which sent rockets into low orbit to study them. That research no longer takes place, but the lights are still just as prevalent and exciting.
