When visiting Africa it’s easy to overlook the smaller creatures. This African green pigeon is feeding on the fruit of a Jackalberry tree. Jackalberry’s are savored by many African animals. The skin of the fruit is tough to break through, but inside the edible portion has a consistency of flour with a sweet lemon flavor.
I shot this image while standing in the back of our Land Rover. I used the Olympus E-M1X and the 300mm F/4 with the 2X teleconverter. Having the equivalent of 1200mm of telephoto reach is exceptionally helpful for photographing birds of all kinds.
