Trumpeters Beneath the Storm

Trumpeters Beneath the Storm Natural Note

This image is a perfect example of the old adage, “The best camera is the one you have with you.” On a beautiful fall evening in central Minnesota, I went for a walk. Upon cresting the top of a ridge, this glorious autumn scene containing one of my favorite birds came into view. I had grabbed my Olympus EM-1X but forgot to check the battery, which unfortunately was dead. Thankfully, I had my iPhone 7. Though considered ancient, it does have a camera, and I began to shoot. Had it not been for my phone, this scene would be nothing more than my own personal memory. Even so-called professionals can make mistakes.

The repopulation of trumpeter swans is just one of many incredible recovery stories resulting from the Endangered Species Act. In the 1930s, only 69 trumpeters were known to be alive in the United States. In 2000, that number was up to 24,000 individuals. Thankfully, trumpeter swans have an ally in The Trumpeter Swan Society. Visit their website to find out more and support their cause with a donation.

Oh… and by the way, I just ordered the iPhone 12.
