There’s something about an owl that can make you stop dead in your tracks and just stare. I don’t know what it is that makes people love owls so much, but they do. It may be their mystique, their silent flight, their large eyes that pierce the darkness, or maybe it’s the low and haunting call that many people recognize.
This handsome bird is a short-eared owl. I captured his picture just last week while working with Denver Holt of the Owl Research Institute (ORI). Denver and I have worked together for many years, with our first project being Snowy Owls for National Geographic. I’m now producing a series of videos for the ORI called Owl Notes. Stop by ORI’s website to learn more about owls. You can watch the first episode of Owl Notes on the Natural Exposures TV YouTube channel.
If you enjoy our monthly Natural Note, please SHARE it with your friends, family, and on Facebook/other social media channels.
