In celebration of the passing fall season, I want to share with you one of my favorite polar bear images. Large male polar bears, like these two, often play fight while waiting for Hudson Bay to freeze over. It is thought that play fighting may be practice to determine strength, speed, and endurance for the competitive mating season the following spring.
It’s been about five years since my last visit to Churchill, Manitoba, Canada, the “polar bear capital of the world.” I’m writing this as I head North, on my way to help my friends at Polar Bears International open the educational facility they recently built. It should be fun since most of the wall decor and educational images are from the Arctic Documentary Project I’ve been working on for 20+ years. If you’re fortunate enough to be in Churchill this bear season, stop by and say hello!
