Orangutan Family

By Daniel J. Cox

Orangutan Family Natural Note

A baby orangutan gazes peacefully toward the sky while nestled comfortably in its mother’s lap. For me, it’s impossible not to smile when you see the obvious similarities between this mother and humans.

From a genetic perspective, orangutans share 97% of the same DNA as humans. Even with this close connection, we continue to destroy the habitat these animals need to live. The reason? Palm oil. Palm oil plantations and the industrial infrastructure that goes with them have taken nearly half of all the forest regions in Borneo. These animals deserve a place on planet Earth. Natural Exposures recently donated $1500 to Eco Lodges Indonesia to help them purchase forest land to ensure orangutans will always have a place to call home.

If you have an interest in DONATING to Eco Lodges Indonesia, please send us an email, or adopt an orangutan through WWF and support their work in Borneo.
