This lone female brown bear was up early, heading for the river to fish for salmon. It was a gorgeous morning with cool temps, a bright red sunrise, and the sound of an eagle calling from its driftwood perch along the beach.
Morning is one of the most productive times to be out searching for wildlife. It’s called the golden hour, and this occurs at both ends of the day, typically an hour or two after sunrise and the same before sunset,a time when the animals rise from their naps, having rested when the sun is at its most intense.
This picture was taken on our annual brown bear and salmon fishing adventure. I never tire from being in the wilds of Alaska. Without wilderness this planet would be a much poorer place, and without bears it would be a land without life.
