In celebration of my current assignment in Alaska, I wanted to share an image I shot several years ago in Denali State Park. What was so inspiring about Denali State Park is how much the habitat reminded me of my childhood in northern Minnesota.
I pulled into the park under the cover of darkness. I found a camp spot, crawled into the back of my truck, and then tucked myself into the downy comfort of my North Face sleeping bag. The next morning I woke to loons calling from a lake in the distance and this glorious fall scene outside my topper window.
Looking out the back of my canopied shelter I could have sworn I was in Minnesota, but with one glance to the sky, the mountains reminded me it was obviously Alaska. So far away, yet so familiar, loons calling, birch trees quaking, and the smell of tannins and muskeg,Minnesota with mountains in a dream.
