The Gifts of Books for Kenya School Kids
The Gifts of Books for Kenya School Kids. Kenya is just around the corner and once again we’ll be working with our local Kenya guides to supply textbooks to a local school in Kenya. On our last trip two years ago, our group donated $1000 to one such lucky school. Henry Miwani, one of our long time Kenya guides, contacted a local teacher in his village and she put together a list of the books they desperately needed. That was a huge bonus so we just didn’t go out and spend a thousand bucks on books they didn’t need. The books were all bought from a Kenya government sanctioned book company in Nairobi.
By the way we still have two spots that recently opened for our Kenya Trip. If I would live anywhere out of the US, Kenya would be my home.
We chose to start giving books rather than asking our guests to bring things from home they no longer used. In the past that included t-shirts, running shoes, pants, etc. It never quite felt right giving away hand me downs and goods of little value. So now we just send the footwear to bootbomb.com to deal with. One year, the village we visited, just about got in a fist fight over a pair of Air Jordans from one of our guests. That was the impetus to do something different and thus gifting of textbooks was born.
We leave for Kenya January 5th and would love to extend the opportunity to all those interested in donating funds to this worthy cause. If you want to take part, please give Jill a call or drop us an email. We’ll be posting the dollar amount we collect and a list of all who donated for the cause. You can reach Jill at the info below:
