DPReview Crowns 2012’s Best Cameras

Posted Jan. 2nd, 2013 by Daniel J. Cox

DPReview, my favorite go to website for all camera information, recently took a poll from their readers to get their thoughts on the best camera of 2012. And the winner is the Micro 4/3’s Olympus OM-D EM-5. Nikon’s D800/D800E was second and the Canon EOS 5 Mark lll came in third. I find it interesting how the new smaller, lighter camera was voted the top spot. As many of you know I’m a big fan of the smaller, lighter cameras and in particular the Micro 4/3’s category the Olympus OM-D EM-5 is a part of.

On a related subject, another favorite website that specializes in the Micro 4/3’s information, Micro 4/3’s Rumors, recently released a chart showing the most popular cameras selling in Japan. Nikon’s mirrorless model the Nikon 1 J1 is the top selling camera in the country that leads the world in photography.  The top twenty cameras are all in the mirrorless category.

I’m currently working on a related topic, the new Panasonic Lumix GH3, for an upcoming Blog post. I have this hard to get, new Micro 4/3’s camera here in Kenya and will be shooting it extensively over the nest two weeks. Stay tuned for that review.
