Aperture Adds Support for Lumix GH4
Aperture Adds Support for Lumix GH4, Ok, I’m going out on a limb here to say that as far as I can tell, Aperture is now supporting RAW files from the Panasoinc Lumix GH4. I have heard nothing about Apple bringing out an update to Aperture to support the GH4 RAW files, but I had a friend that said he was working with his GH4 RAW files in Aperture. I swore that could not be true but he swore it was.
I have heard nothing about Apple bringing out an update for the GH4. So for a test I went into Aperture, highlighted an image, went up and clicked on the PHOTOS tab. In that drop down menu, towards the bottom, is the option to “Use RAW as Original”. Selecting either RAW or JPEG is an option when you import images into Aperture and since I thought there was no support for RAW, I had chosen “Use JPEG as Original” which is what the program was doing. By highlighting the image and choosing “Use RAW as Original” I can now edit the RAW file. To check the original image I once again highlighted the image and did a right click and selected “Show in Finder”. This took me to the original RAW file on my hard drive and indeed I was seeing and editing the RAW file.
I’ve searched the web for any info on Apple releasing this update and I cannot find a single word about this new update. Has anyone else seen anything to confirm what I’m able to do? If so, please tell me where you are seeing info on Apple releasing an update for RAW support for Aperture and the GH4.

Hello Dan. I do believe that you are correct. Received a GH4 today and, after setting up the controls consistently with my GH3, took a few garden shots with the camera set for “raw only.” The image loaded into iPhoto, I created an album, exited iPhoto into Aperture and adjusted the white balance, levels, and used the color efex plug in. All worked fine. (I wonder whether the sensor is the same as, or similar to, the GM1 which was added back in March).
As an aside, the new viewfinder is pure magic.
Best wishes, John

John, I’ve posted this observation on several other forums and here of course. I’ve not had anybody else mention anything about Aperture seeing the GH4 lies. Guess there must be many fewer Apertures users than I thought. That’s the only thing I can think of since Panasonic is selling many, many GH4s. Thanks for stopping to add your voice.
