Cox/NaturalExposures.comHomage to Monet, Yellowstone A few summers ago I was coming back from Yellowstone National Park. It had been a slow week. Not many pictures but I was content. I was headed home, driving slowly out of West Yellowstone, following the winding road that makes its way along the Gallatin River. So many dead trees, some from the fires of 1988 and others from more recent blazes. A carpet of green broken every few feet by a limbless, decaying shaft of concrete colored wood. It's been years and so many still stand. Out of the corner of my eye fleeting colors of pinks, greens, purples and golds jolt me out of my trance. My head spins to the right in a double-take out the back of my pickup window as I jam on the brakes, safely pulling to the side. I get out, walk back a hundred yards and think to myself, "wow this is spectacular." © 2005 Daniel J.
